Summer in the City

We are nearly at the end of July already, but what glorious weather we have been having over the past two months! Let's hope we have all been wearing our Factor 50 and making sure we stay hydrated during these hot times. A few of the crew are looking a little red, with a few strap lines whilst others look as if they have spent the past three weeks in Barbados!

There is so much to do within the city during the summer, whether you are a resident, a tourist or just coming on a day trip, the New Road Crew have been checking out some of the latest events and things to do, here are some of our favourites:

London Craft Beer Festival

Who doesn't like a nice cold beer on a warm summer's day? You can try over 65 different brews at the London Craft Beer Festival. Located at Tobacco Dock, the festival runs over three days and offers samples from star breweries, tantalising food and some great headline music & DJ sets. Opt for the "all in" ticket to explore at your leisure.

We will certainly be sampling some of the fine beers on offer from breweries such as Left Handed Giant, Magic Rock, Weird Beard & Yellow Belly. For tickets visit https://londoncraftbeerfestival.co.uk/home/ or view the video to find out more: https://youtu.be/IczknCMW6bw.

The festival is only a 20-minute walk from New Road Hotel, so why not book a room with us?

Urban beach

Fancy a trip to the seaside? Get your bucket & spades at the ready! But if you don't fancy sitting in a traffic jam on the motorway or putting up with the kids saying "are we nearly there yet?" for three hours, then why not visit a beach right on the doorstep!

The Urban Beach is a stretch of sandy beach ideal for a great day out with family & friends. Laze in a deckchair, build a sandcastle or relax with a good book. The beach is free to use and is open from 18th July – 2nd September, 10 am – 6 pm daily. We will be there after we finish work, as its just a short ride on the DLR.

Who would've thought you could come and visit London for a spot of sight-seeing and pop to a beach at the same time?

Scoop

A must in this glorious weather – ice cream! Experience the history of the sweet treat, and sample some weird and wonderful flavours at SCOOP @ Kings Cross.

Suitable for kids and big kids alike, SCOOP will give visitors the chance to walk through a futuristic luminescent cave with glow-in-the-dark ice cream, experience a sub-zero ice chamber to contemplate the awesome power of ice and taste a vanilla ice cream cloud. The show centres on a curated selection of the world's largest never-before-seen collection of ice cream paraphernalia.

Get your BBQ on

There are 7 parks in London that you are legally allowed to BBQ in – please ensure you use a disposable BBQ and take all your rubbish with you. Get your bangers and burgers out for a great alfresco bite to eat without the washing up!!

If you fancy something more civilised, then why take advantage of our new summer menu at Mr Whites English Chophouse, where kids eat free this summer. For more details visit: https://www.mpwrestaurants.co.uk/our-brands/mr-whites-english-chophouse/whitechapel/special-offers/kids-eat-free

MOVIES ON THE RIVER

Enjoy the London skyline at sunset whilst watching a movie on the top deck of a boat after a cruise along the River Thames.

Time out will be bringing an array of films this summer for London's first ever cinema on the Thames. For five nights a week until the end of September, the movie boat will offer food & drink fuelled sunset cruises from the Tower of London. Choose from classic movies including Jaws, Dirty Dancing and Some Like It Hot, to the more recent movies of Dunkirk and The Greatest Showman.

THE SLIDE

No one from the New Road Crew are brave enough yet to take on this challenge – are you? Perhaps this should be the location for the next team night out!

You will descend the world's longest tunnel slide, at 178 long, as you travel down the UK's tallest public artwork, passing through light & dark sections with London's dramatic skyscape whizzing by! In the 40 second trip, you will circle around the ArcelorMittal Orbit 12 times as you weave your way through the famous loops and curves of the iconic structure, including a tight corkscrew section names the "bettfeder" – after the German word for bedspring and end with a 50m straight run back down to earth!

Only an 18-minute cycle from the hotel! Further information visit: http://arcelormittalorbit.com/whats-on/the-slide/
